Human Rights Defenders Tulip: Nominations until 15 June
Nominations are now being accepted for the Human Rights Defenders Tulip 2011. Anyone can submit a nomination. The nomination form is available at Humanrightstulip.org. Nominations must be received by 15 June 2011.
The Human Rights Defenders Tulip is the human rights award presented by the Dutch government to an individual who has shown exceptional courage in protecting and promoting the rights of fellow citizens.
The winner receives the bronze statuette of the Human Rights Defenders Tulip and possible funding for a human rights project. Winners are also invited to participate in a tour of Europe, which will put them in contact with people relevant to their activities.
An independent jury selects the winner. The Dutch Minister of Foreign Affairs presents the Human Rights Defenders Tulip in December 2011.
Human rights defenders from all over the world can be nominated. They should be individuals (not organisations), whose daily work involves the peaceful protection/promotion of human rights. They should be human rights defenders who have faced or are at risk of facing the negative, personal consequences of their work. They are individuals who could benefit from the recognition and visibility of winning the prize.
Nominations will only be accepted if the form is completed in its entirety and is accompanied by any necessary supporting documents. We accept submissions in the following languages: Dutch, English, French and Spanish.
